Wi-Fi Gaming for Nintendo DS

The Nintendo DS hand-held gaming device (sort of like Gameboy, but with two-screens) is forging into new territory with their built-in Wi-Fi support.  Wired News gives us an overview of what most of us already know - playing multi-player games is a lot of fun. Hackers are dabbling in the DS's Wi-Fi capabilities and now mainstream developers have products available with more coming soon. Adding wireless will make hand-held LAN parties commonplace. The social aspects of close-proximity gaming are intriguing to consider.

1. Can I tell you how excited I am about this? I have no valuable input, except to say that I have a DS, and I am chomping at the bit to see what is done with the wireless capabilities.

2. lol hackers.. I suppose we'll be seeing Linux ports available on the DS soon. That'll be fun.

Anyway it's great to see wifi being used in games systems now. It's definitely the way forward. You mention local gaming in the article but the possibilities of networking using wifi routers at home and outside are just so exciting. It'll be a while, and a few more generations of handheld consoles, before we start seeing all this really bloom though.
